There are moments in time that are fixed. Moments in your life that really make life special. Last night, I can tell you for certain, it was one of those moments. Hello all, greetings from the moon.
Every band leading up to The Schwag was inching our tribe closer to free fall, and every set was more beautiful than the last.
But what makes this story unique and such a special moment in my life are the events that lead up to the final show.
I had the privilege of running into Bear and Jimmy from Schwag and I gave them some coloring books. We talked for about 10 minutes, I expressed my gratitude for the amazing set the night before. And in our quick exchange of moments, Jimmy asked if I wanted anything for the books. I figured I'd go for broke, I asked for "Box of Rain. A beautiful Phil song that is one of my favorites.
Let's fast forward now, a few short hours later, Turbine was shredding their final song. The celebration of the music was well on its way and the crowd hung heavy with anticipation. This is my moment in time. This is where my amazing story starts. It was at this moment I ran into some of the Dancing tribe girls, who happened to tell me that Schwag not only began coloring some of the books but they also wrote their set list inside the cover.
Folks, I know this might seem trivial to most. But the news that my book, my art, my creation, is being enjoyed by these tremendous musicians, who in just a few moments are about to use their art to take me on a ride, melted my heart. And this moment was only surpassed when the band held true to our little accord and played, what might possibly be the best Box of Rain I have ever heard.
We came here to celebrate a band. To celebrate their music. If there was one main thing that the Grateful Dead did, it was leave a perfect blue print to play the most beautiful music ever created. And like them or not, the original Grateful Dead haven't played together since we lost Jerry. Yet here we are, still celebrating the love we all share. Well over fifty years of music and still growing strong. And it gives me hope and restores my soul to see families and their children at a grateful festival. These children will no doubt grow into young men and women who will bring their children to shows too.
I will end my blog with this. If the Grateful Dead really left a blueprint for perfect music. The Schwag found it, and added their own beautiful touch to it.
I'd like to thank everyone at Mountain Sky for all that you do. To everyone I met or partied with over this beautiful weekend. To anyone who got a coloring book and collaborates with my art. To all the bands who celebrated with us for a special weekend. To the Dancing Bear Tribe. To George Wesley, who would have loved this show, thank you from the bottom of my grateful heart.
Sincerely,
Jeweled Moon
